General Meeting August 12, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:32 PM by Shawn Hyman, Vice- President. There were approximately 29 members present. Shawn announced that there will not be any meeting in September because we would not have enough board members present to have a quorum.

Vice-President: Shawn Hyman had no report.

Secretary Report: Sue Rashford, Secretary read the minutes for the July meeting. It was moved by Howard Wallace and seconded by Wolfgang Stohs to accept them as read.

Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was read with details of credits and debits by Karen Latragna. There are 87 members and 58 partners/spouses. It was moved by Penny Goad and seconded by John Bierie to accept the report as read.

Editor’s Report: Bill Rashford said that pictures from the Big Bear Bash are on the webpage. He added that he put a link to Neal and Gayle Brune’s Web Log on our webpage. They bought a Corvette from the factory and have put their experience online for us to see. Bill said you click on Headline News and you can see their story.

He continued to report that he is working on updating the membership list so if anyone has any changes, please let him know.

NCCC Governor: Mel Schram said that for the next 3 months anyone who wants to join the club, they will get a free ride because NCCC will not be collecting any money from us. You will get the rest of this year and next year for the same price. He added that there is a car show in Buena Park this weekend if anyone is interested.

Marketing: Weez Hyman had no report.

Our sponsor, Dan Jessup, had an announcement, however. He said that for our next meeting in October we would be changing locations. We would be at the Chevrolet Store and Dealership on Hwy 111. There will be directions posted on the website. He also said that he had 7 or 8 new 2009 Corvettes on stock and 3 or 4 2008 models. Jessup has one of the best selections of models and Chevrolet is offering 0 % financing for 5 years on any of their 2008 models. If you have any questions, please come and see him and he will direct you to someone to help you. Mike Brown is the Service Manager and Gary is the Service Writer.

Old Business: The Big Bear Bash was reported by the Rashfords to be a fun event. About 10 of our club members showed up and Jack Allison entered his car in the Autocross. Everyone came to the Rashford’s house in Sugarloaf and had a picnic lunch. It was agreed that it should be placed on the club calendar next year and more members should make an effort to come up for the day.

Our next event is the Idyllwild Picnic on August 23rd. Elsie Stohs is the chairperson and she sent a sign-up list around. Contact her to let her know what food you are bringing. An email reminder will go out on the Friday before the event. It will be at Hurkey Creek Park and we will meet at the church on the corner of Hwy 74/Haystack at 9:30 AM on Saturday, Aug. 23rd. Bring your own drinks, chairs, and some games to play. It is $2 per car to get in the park.

We still need a September function so Elsie suggested we go to Dana Point for the day. Howard and Eddie Wallace offered to chair the event and it will be on Sept. 20th. We will meet at the Starbucks at Washington/Varner at 8:30 and leave at 9:00 AM. Bring change because we will use a toll road.

Dinner Night Out last month at the Blue Coyote was fun and Shawn thanked Carmel and Joan for putting it together.

October 18th is our first Corvette Night at Jessup from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and dinner at Ruby’s Diner in Rancho Mirage at 8:00. Maggie Hamilton passed out flyers about the fundraiser. Ruby’s will donate 20% of the proceeds that night between 4 – 10:00 PM. to our charity – ALS. You must bring a copy of the flyer and it will be stapled to your receipt. All members need to get the word out and get a good attendance. Maggie said she contacted the local ALS and they are also sending out flyers to their members.

Shawn encouraged everyone to attend our new monthly Corvette Show because we will have our own identity and we will give our sponsor Jessup Auto Plaza a chance to showcase their cars. We will need people to bring their own drinks and Dan Jessup has a popcorn machine.

October 25th Liz and Jerry Brannon are chairing a trip to Oak Glen Apple Country.

In November there will be nominations for club officers. Please be sure to talk to the person you want to nominate to be sure they want to run for the office.

November 22nd Paul Aragon will be chairperson for a trip to the Riverside International Auto Museum.

December 6th is the Palm Springs Festival of Lights and Shawn pointed out it is a huge event which thousands of people come to see. Joan Lake will carry our banner and it should be a fun night for all. Members will need a 400 watt converter to hook up the 4 strands of lights and suction cups to hold the lights on the cars. It works very well and does not damage your car.

December 13th is the Christmas Party and election of officers.

New Business:

Dinner Night Out will be at the Olive Garden and we will order off the menu. Joan Lake announced it is on Aug. 28th.

In July Lou and Karen Latragna were married 39 years. Congratulations to the happy couple!

The 50/50 raffle for $40 was won by Sandi Donnelly.

It was moved by Mike Donnelly and seconded by Penny Goad to adjourn at 8:17 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Rashford

Secretary
