Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease is a progressive wasting away of certain nerve cells in the muscles that will no longer respond to the impulses sent by the brain through the spinal column. It is a totally disabling, always fatal disease with no known cure. Patients typically have a life expectancy of two to four years after diagnosis. They progressively lose control of their muscles and require intensive personal care during the course of the disease.
For more information on ALS, go to: www.alsa.org
**The primary fund raiser for ALS is the Annual Spring Autocross, which is held in March at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio, CA.
Other Donations in Our Community
The club evaluates other local charitable needs throughout the year and donates on a case-by-case basis:
Last year the Club organized a Fall Classic Autocross for the benefit of the Boy's and Girl's Club of Palm Springs and Cathedral City. For more information on this program please visit http://www.bgca.org
We are also happy to announce that we were able to donate to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Riverside County. For more information on CASA please visit http://www.casariversidecounty.org/ or contact Deborah Sutton at 760-863-7424.
